Jeepers Creepers, Where’d You Get Those Peepers?

Do you prefer the Ethel Waters, Bing Crosby, or Frank Sinatra version of “Jeepers Creepers”?  Personally, I like my grandmothers version from when I was a young child that we of course used to sing to my “purple” Persian cat, named Peepers.  He was white and silver, I was (AM) weird.  Peepers, as you can imagine didn’t need any cosmetics to enhance his gorgeous feline eyes.  This girl right here though, needs a little enhancement to the brows and lashes every now and again.

I don’t know about you, but I am always searching for the perfect brown product for my imperfect brows.  And the mascara that is just right for my long, yet increasingly sparse lashes.  So over the weekend I picked up the Tarte Lights, Camera, LASHES mascara and Benefit’s Goof Proof Brow Pencil.  The mascara was on sale for $10, so it was definitely worth a try since my current mascara was on the outs anyway.  As for the brow pencil, I was also on the last little nub for that as well.  What better time to try out some different products?  Now here we are, and here are my thoughts on both products.

dsc00833First up, we have Benefit’s Goof Proof Brow Pencil.  I should mention that my eyebrows are a nightmare.   They are horrifying beasts above my eyes.  I wasn’t born with terrible brows, yet I abused them over the years by pulling and over plucking them to the MAX.  So I finally decided to grow them out over a year ago.  They grew in, which is great, but they are patchy little critters now.  To me, the Goof Proof brow pencil sounded perfect, because it claims to be easy for filling in uneven/patchy brows.

I purchased the pencil in shade number 4, for medium to dark brown hair with cool undertones.  I tend to stay away from brow products that are too warm in tone because I find that with my fair skin, the red really sticks out like a sore thumb.  And I wasn’t expecting this product to really define my brows as much as I needed it to fill in the uneven patches.  It does as it claims, and it doesn’t skip over the hairless patches like some other products tend to do.  It is also easy to blend out with the provided brush.  The lasting power is okay, by the end of the day it was mostly still there.  I’m just not sold on the shade.  I think I might need to get the darker, yet warmer toned number 5 unfortunately.  Overall, I wasn’t particularly “wowed” by this product if I’m being REAL.  It does the job for sure, but it isn’t “just right,” and I am not goldilocks.

dsc00880Then we have Tarte’s Lights, Camera, LASHES mascara.  I wanted to like this one, because I genuinely love most of Tarte’s products.  It got really good reviews online, so I thought it was a sure thing.  This, however, was a complete FAIL for me.  I disliked it from the moment it touched my lashes.  It made my lashes clumpy and stumpy.  NOT a cute look.  I have longer lashes, so that was the last thing I expected a mascara to do.  I didn’t even know it was possible for a mascara to make lashes stumpy.  Folks, I am here to tell you it is completely possible.  And, being the perfectionist that I am, this mascara application ruined my day.  Not really, but it did put me in a foul mood for a few hours.  Throughout the day, it flaked everywhere.  Poo.

Here are a couple of pictures of me wearing both products.  The first picture is with unflattering flash, the second picture was taken in natural lighting.

Let me know if you have tried these products and your thoughts.  Also, please give me any and all recommendations for brow and mascara products.  I want to know your favorites!
